LTI Korea Translation Award

For the purpose of cultivating the next generation of translators of Korean literature and cultural content, LTI Korea presents Translation Award for Aspiring Translators.

: Target Languages

(Literature) English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and two additional languages may be included where there is a perceived need for the discovery and support of aspiring translators, based on LTI’s discretion.

(Film) English, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese
(Webtoon) English, French, Spanish, and Japanese

: Eligibility

(Literature) Applicants who have not yet received an official translation grant or published a translated work of Korean literature in their language.
Applicants whose previous translations have appeared only in the LTI Korea Translation Academy and/or Translation Atelier Collections are considered eligible.
(Film) Applicants should not have more than one translation of film/TV series subtitles screened in Korea or abroad, submitted to film festivals, and/or released on OTT platforms (such as Netflix, Watcha, YouTube Originals, etc.)
(Webtoon) Applicants should not have more than one translation published or released online.

(Literature) 9 winners, total prize money of 45 million KRW (5 million KRW for each language)
(Film) 4 winners, total prize money of 20 million KRW (5 million KRW for each language), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award given to the top prize winner
(Webtoon) 4 winners, total prize money of 20 million KRW (5 million KRW for each language), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award given to the top prize winner

: Evaluation Criteria

(Literature) Experts in relevant fields from Korea and abroad select one winner for each language group against the following criteria: understanding of the original work, completeness of the translation, etc. Up to two winners may be selected for a language group with a relatively large volume of outstanding submissions.
(Film/Webtoon) Experts in relevant fields consider the characteristics of different genres and select one winner for each language group.
