🌟 Key Takeaways from the LTI Korea Translators' Roundtable 🌟 We had an insightful roundtable with two key presentations and a lively discussion. Here are the highlights:📚 Presentation 1: Desired Translation Support Policies for New Translators - Park JinwooChallenges for New Translators:1. New translators often struggle to effectively communicate with Korean publishers.2. Understanding the publishing process and navigating contracts can be difficult for newcomers.3. Building relationships with overseas publishers can seem daunting.Proposed Solutions:1. Sample translation tracking to help translators be aware of what has been picked up for translation2.Connecting new translators with experienced mentors for guidance and support.3. Connecting translators with Korean publishers 4. Connecting translators with agents 5. Workshops and courses to equip translators with the necessary business and marketing skills📚 Presentation 2: The Need for Specific Genre Targeting through Analysis of the Spanish-speaking market - Joo HasunMarket Analysis:1. Spain: Noir and romance dominate the bestseller lists.2. Mexico: Non-fiction, especially translations of English works, and light, easy reads trending on social media hold strong appeal.3. Argentina: Traditional literature, particularly works by Argentinian or Argentinian-origin international award winners, alongside romance novels, reign supreme.Key Takeaway: Korean literature translations for the Spanish market should consider a two-track approach encompassing both both traditional and genre-driven approaches, tailored to specific regional tastes.📚 Free Discussion Highlights:1. Need for better communication with Korean publishers2. Concerns about the new grant system3. Need for translator rights awareness, including royalty payments5. Addressing information gapsOverall, the Roundtable fostered a valuable exchange of ideas and highlighted the need for improved support systems for translators, along with strategies for targeting international markets based on genre preferences.#ltikorea #Koreanlit #Koreanliterature #roundtable #publishing #translation #번역원 #한국문학 #번역가간담회 #간담회 #출판 #번역 #출판시장
