The Regular Course is a two-year literary translation program for native speakers of the five language groups offered by the Translation Academy (English, French, German, Spanish, Russian). The Translation Academy received 110 applications this year, a 30% increase from the previous year, and admitted a total of 21 students who passed the document submission, written application, and interview stages.

This year, the opening ceremony was preceded by a special lecture from a Translation Academy alumnus. Anton Hur, graduate of the 2nd class of the Regular Course and the 4th through 8th classes of the Translation Atelier, now an active professional translator, spoke on the topic of ‘Strategies for Translators of Korean Literature: Where to Go After the Translation Academy’. He drew on his own experiences to share potential paths that emerging translators could take to become professional translators of Korean literature in the future.

The ceremony was followed by an orientation session. Students gathered in their own language groups and met with their instructors, discussing the future direction of classes. Although they were meeting for the first time, the students and instructors bonded quickly over their shared passion for translation in their respective languages.
