The Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea) held a special exhibit titled ‘Korean Literature as Healing’ from June 20 to 24 at the Seoul International Book Fair. Over 10 students and instructors from the LTI Korea Translation Academy, a course designed to foster the next generation of translators of Korean literature, offered their suggestions for the comforting works of literature to be featured at the booth.

Part of the booth was dedicated to postcards featuring English translations of comforting Korean poetry. Friends, families, and couples at the fair would draw balls marked with words connected to healing and comfort, and would receive postcards with poetry corresponding to the words.

On the final day of the exhibit, LTI Korea held a giveaway event where 100 works of Korean literature, translated into languages including French, Chinese, Russian, and Vietnamese, were handed out to booth visitors. Because of the exhibit’s proximity to the French and the Russian pavilions, there was a great deal of participation from French and Russian guests. One visitor in particular was overjoyed to receive a Vietnamese translation to give to a friend while on a business trip to Vietnam.

Another part of the booth was dedicated to promoting the upcoming Seoul International Writers’ Festival. Photographs of 30 writers scheduled to attend, along with their names and book titles, adorned the postcards on display at the section.

LTI Korea’s foreign literature imprint Ma-eum-Yi-eum held a pre-order event for the Georgian anthology The Garden of the Poultry Breeder Gabriel as part of their ‘Discovering Foreign Literature’ initiative. Also distributed on site were copies of Korean Literature Now, LTI Korea’s English-language quarterly magazine published to introduce Korean literature to the English-speaking world.
