Dear Literature Translation Institute of Korea,

Thank you for your extraordinary commitment to translation and to furthering literature. I am a literary translator based in India, translating from Hindi and Urdu to English. I have a translation of cinema scholarship forthcoming from HarperCollins India. I am presently at work on a large three book translation project from the 1950s involving fiction and travelogue by an acclaimed Indian modern painter and writer. I won the 2019 Translation residency fellowship at Sangam House to complete a part of this long project.
I was given your contact information by the head of the Indo-Korean centre at Chennai, India, where I presently live. I understand that you had supported translation work of an Indian write-translator in the past through a translation grant. From your website, however, I understand you support translators working from or into the Korean language via your translation grant.

I am writing to enquire if that past programme still continues, and if I could have the opportunity to send you a proposal of my translation project for a translation grant from the Literature Translation Institute of Korea?
Please let me know what your institute's current position on supporting translation work by international writers in non-Korean languages might be. I would indeed love to learn if that is possible, or if a special grant possibility exists. If so, please let me know if you would like details of my proposed work and CV.
I look forward to an engagement with Korean literature in the future -- as a Sangam fellow, I intend to apply for the Toji Residency offered in Korea next year, and should I win it, I hope to learn more about Korean literature there and to visiting your institute to see your sustained and committed work on literary translation.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely
Shruti Parthasarathy
